When people ask an AI instead of searching, which businesses get mentioned — and why? I’m studying how those answers pick their sources.

When someone looks for what a business offers — on Google, on a map, or by asking an AI — I work on making sure that business is what they find.
Between someone’s question and a business, there are now many places to be found — or quietly skipped.
Which pages get shown, and in what order. Most clicks go to the first few.
For “near me”, people see a map, a profile and star ratings before any website.
Guides, comparisons and product pages — each judged on how well it answers the question.
An AI reads the sources and writes one answer. Only some sources get cited.
Being found isn’t one problem anymore.
I work on the systems between what people search for and what they eventually discover.
Organic growth looks different for every business. Here are three versions of the problem — and what I did about each.
Alongside full-time roles
Agency and freelance work for businesses across 20 industries — finding what held their sites back, planning new websites, and ongoing SEO and content. On new websites, I worked alongside the developers on structure, content and search — so each site was ready to be found from launch day.

I work on organic growth — helping businesses get found without paying for every click. I learned it the hands-on way: fixing pages, organising websites, and working out why one page gets found while another doesn’t.
Then the question started to change. People still search, but more and more they ask an AI — and it answers with a handful of sources it trusts. So I’ve been learning how those answers are built, and where a business fits into them.
That pulled me towards systems and building: automating the repetitive parts of the work, and using AI to make things myself rather than only advise on them.

Getting the right message to the right customer without doing it by hand. I’ve run WhatsApp, RCS and feedback campaigns; now I’m exploring automation.

Something I’m building and testing to take the repetitive work out of managing store listings — location details, reports and reviews. It grew out of the retail work above. Early and experimental, not a finished product.
Exploring which sources and brands AI answers mention — and why some get cited while others don’t.
